Acer has appointed Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as its brand ambassador as the technology company expands its presence beyond personal computing and builds a broader portfolio for the modern home.
The partnership comes as Acer marks 50 years since its founding and 27 years of operations in India. The company is using the milestone to promote its House of Acer concept, which brings its computing products together with Acerpure home appliances under a single ecosystem.
The portfolio includes laptops and other computing devices alongside televisions, air conditioners, washing machines and other home solutions. The company is positioning the offering around a broader view of technology, where devices are part of everyday routines rather than isolated products.
From personal computing to the connected home
Acer’s move reflects a wider shift in the consumer technology market, where traditional computing brands are increasingly expanding into adjacent categories. Connected home products offer manufacturers an opportunity to build longer-term relationships with consumers while bringing different technology categories under a common brand.
For Acer, the House of Acer concept is intended to create a more unified home technology experience. The company said its objective is to make everyday life “smarter, easier and healthier” by integrating technology into activities ranging from work and entertainment to home management and comfort.
Akshay Kumar said the association reflects his view that technology should simplify daily life.
“My life is always moving. There is work, travel, fitness and family, and when I come home, I want things to be simple,” Kumar said. “Technology should make life easier, not add more to your list.”
He added that Acer had evolved alongside changing consumer lifestyles and that the House of Acer brought together technology designed for different aspects of everyday living.
Acer looks to a new consumer proposition
The partnership gives Acer a prominent public face as the company broadens its consumer proposition. Kumar’s association with the brand comes at a time when Acer is seeking to connect its established computing identity with a wider range of household technology.
Harish Kohli, president and managing director of Acer India Group, said consumer technology had moved beyond the traditional desk and had become part of how people work, relax, entertain themselves and live.
“For 50 years globally and 27 years in India, Acer has continued to evolve with the changing needs of consumers,” Kohli said. “The House of Acer brings this evolution together, creating a home where technology is designed to make everyday life smarter, easier and healthier.”
Kohli said Kumar’s association with performance, discipline, reliability and continuous evolution made him a suitable partner for the company’s next phase.
A broader role for the brand
The appointment comes as technology companies increasingly compete across multiple consumer categories. Computing remains central to Acer’s business, but the expansion into home appliances gives the company a wider platform from which to engage consumers.
For Acer, the challenge will be to turn the House of Acer concept into a coherent consumer proposition rather than simply a collection of products carrying the same brand. The partnership with Kumar is expected to play a role in communicating that broader positioning.
